Implant Supported Dentures
Implant Supported Dentures
Implant supported dentures are replacement teeth that attach to dental implants placed in the jawbone instead of resting only on the gums. Many people look into them when a conventional denture feels loose or shifts while eating and speaking.
How They Work
Small titanium implants are placed in the jaw and act as anchors for the denture. The denture then connects to those anchors. Common designs include:
- Removable overdenture — snaps onto the implants and can be taken out for cleaning.
- Fixed denture — secured to the implants and cleaned in place, removed only by a dental professional.
Who Considers Them
People often explore this option when they are missing most or all of their teeth in an arch, or when a traditional denture has become uncomfortable or hard to keep in place. Because implants need enough healthy bone and healthy gums, an evaluation is part of deciding whether this is the right fit.
