Bone Grafting
Bone Grafting
Bone grafting rebuilds jawbone that has been lost, often so the jaw can support a dental implant. At Sam's Smile Dental in Humble, grafting is part of how we plan and place implants that last.
Why Bone Is Lost
- Missing teeth — the jawbone shrinks over time where a tooth is gone.
- Gum disease — can wear away the bone around teeth.
- Extractions and injury — can leave a socket or area that needs support.
What to Expect
A graft adds bone or bone-like material to the area, where your body gradually builds new bone over the following months. A graft may be placed when a tooth is removed, before an implant or at the same visit. We use imaging to check how much bone you have and explain whether a graft is right for you. Call our office to ask about your options.
